September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide is a serious public health problem that can have lasting harmful effects on individuals, families, and communities. Suicide is more than a mental health concern. On average, one person died by suicide every 7 hours in Virginia which makes, suicide the 10th leading cause of death in the state. On September 17, 2021 Region V Prevention Council and Community Partners are presenting the 6th Annual Suicide Prevention Awareness event Shatter the Silence: Hope Heals. This event will be held at the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton and is free to all youth, families and community members.
