NMUPD Strategies Webinar Series

Prevention Prescription Drug Misuse:

Prevention Strategies from the Research Literature

NMUPD Strategies Webinar Series

Webinar Overview:

The webinars provided by SAMHSA’s Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) in April & May 2017 on the Non-Medical Use of Prescription Drugs (NMUPD) focused on strategies related to supply reduction, demand reduction, and harm reduction.  Each webinar included an overview of how strategy selection fits into the Strategic Prevention Framework and strategies that would impact each of the prevention areas (supply, demand, harm).  As well, the webinars provided information about each strategy related to risk and protective factors, general tasks involved, target audiences, potential partners, evidence of effectiveness, and both advantages and disadvantages of each strategy.   Webinar recordings and power point slides can be found here.

As Virginia CSBs and PFS communities are selecting strategies for their strategies plan, these webinars would be a helpful resource for expanding understanding of strategies and could provide ideas for tasks to include in the action plan and potential partners to consider when implementing activities.  Webinar information will also help communities understand effectiveness of individual strategies and how to develop a comprehensive approach to addressing NMUPD.

CAPT included several key resources that can be found on their website to support strategic planning efforts including:
