Virginia PFS 2015 sub-recipient community partners who participated in the Intersection Between Prevention and Recovery Approaches training held on March 22, 2017 in Staunton, Virginia.

During this peer-sharing session, participants will have the opportunity to share successes as they begin to engage the recovery community in prevention initiatives. Participants will explore potential solutions to current and anticipated challenges as they involve this important community sector. The CAPT will also share resources and tools on building collaboration and partnerships at the community level.

Sandra Puerini Del Sesto, M.Ed., CPSS, CAPT Consultant, has provided training, community and strategic planning support, program development, and capacity building in all areas of prevention practice. A certified prevention specialist supervisor, she has provided training and technical support to state agencies and communities for more than 35 years throughout the U.S. She was the first director of the Institute for Addiction Recovery at Rhode Island College, whose mission was to build bridges among substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery sectors; increase public awareness; and advocate for policies that support persons in recovery within communities.

Lourdes M. Vázquez, Coordinator for the CAPT’s Southeast Resource Team, oversees training and technical assistance services for the 12 states and territories located in the CAPT’s southeast service area.
